We warmly welcome divers from all dive training organisations. Many of our divers and instructors have trained with PADI, CMAS, SAA and others. BSAC recognise the qualifications issued by other organisations and allow you to immediately start training for the next higher BSAC level.
The most common cross-overs are:
| Qualification | Equivalent to | Can start training for |
|---|---|---|
| PADI Open Water | BSAC Ocean Diver | BSAC Sports Diver |
| PADI Advanced Open Water | BSAC Ocean Diver | BSAC Sports Diver |
| PADI Rescue Diver | BSAC Sports Diver | BSAC Dive Leader |
| PADI Divemaster | BSAC Dive Leader | BSAC Advanced Diver |
BSAC recognise many other qualifications under its Statement of Alternative Training (SALT) scheme. A full list is available here.
Why Clidive and why BSAC?
Clidive is a friendly club full of divers who believe that diving isn’t just for holidays once a year. Every year, Clidive organises 80-90 days of diving for its members in the UK and abroad. We are one of the most active diving clubs in the country. Our two fast RIBs (rigid hulled inflatable boats) are based on the South coast and move from location to location throughout the year. In the last year, they have operated from Weymouth, Salcombe, Plymouth, North and South Cornwall and the Western Isles.
We also dive from chartered hard boats around the UK and further afield. In the last year, we have dived in Norway, the South of France, the Red Sea, South-West Ireland, the Farne Islands (Northumberland), Scapa Flow (Orkneys), St. Kilda (North-West Scotland), Anglesey, Oban and Mull, Brighton, Littlehampton and more.
When they first join, many divers who have trained outside of BSAC find that what we do is a bit different:

We encourage everyone who joins to take advantage of the training courses we offer.
For divers that have PADI Open Water or Advanced Open Water qualifications, the Sports Diver course is the ideal next step. Sports Diver covers the rescue skills covered in courses such as PADI Rescue Diver plus the use of more advanced equipment and techniques. The course covers:
Visit us, Go! Dive with BSAC
Go Dive with BSAC is an open invitation to ALL qualified divers to give it a go the BSAC way. It doesn't matter who you trained with, if you've never dived in the UK before or if you haven't dived for a few seasons.
Before you decide to join, come along and meet us one Thursday. We will arrange for you to have a chat with an instructor who will introduce you to Clidive and BSAC, answer your questions and take you in the pool. Your instructor will also explain the BSAC dive tables and buddy check. Before you get in the water, your instructor will ask you to complete a “Safety First” questionnaire to identify what skills you have previously covered in training, what skills you find easy, and what you find trickier.
